4 framed photos of Jonas Salk, 2 with signatures, 1957-1966

From the estate of Henry Kantrowitz, a Pittsburgh CPA who was the PA Chair of the March of Dimes Foundation. All 8 x 10 photos in black wooden frames, 3 of 4 with little typed captions. We have Salk discussing the anti-polio campaign with Harold C. Lund, VP of Westinghouse in 1957, Salk with Mr. and Mrs. Alan Nicholas of the Sun-Telegraph about the same time, with signed slip, inscribed photo of Salk with Kantrowitz, signed with warm regards and dated in another hand December 7, 1964, and Mr. and Mrs. Kantrowitz with Salk apparently discussing "goodies at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena Food Fair" as they are pictured at the Americana Hotel in NYC on Dec. 8, 1966. Kantrowitz was a prominent CPA in Pittsburgh and also a season ticket holder with the Pirates who was one of Roberto Clemente's closest friends in Pittsburgh. There's a sweet story online about Clemente complaining about how cold it was in Pittsburgh his first season here, and Kantrowitz getting him a winter coat, and other stories about Pearl Kantrowitz taking Vera Clemente under her wing. Decent people. The March of Dimes as an organization was founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938, as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, to combat polio. The name "March of Dimes" was coined by Eddie Cantor. After funding Jonas Salk's polio vaccine, the organization expanded its focus to the prevention of birth defects and infant mortality. Salk remained involved in March of Dimes promotions well into his old age. Very good. Item #H30710
