Santiago de Cuba: 1952. First Printing. Wraps. 8vo, wraps, very good, light wear and soil to covers. 337 pp. In Spanish. On the inspection of schools and suggestions on how to make schools more productive. Spanish born pedagog; he was a devotee of the pedagogy of Celestin Freinet and was the first expositor of Freinet's methods and pedagogy outside of France. In 1939 he was forced to flee Spain and went first to France where he stayed with Freinet, and then with some help from friends secured a ticket to Cuba. There, despite his years of experience as an inspector of schools in Spain, he was obliged to obtain his doctorate in Venezuela in order to qualify to teach in Cuba and wrote his thesis, in 1952, on the inspection of schools in Cuba -- this is the published version of that thesis. He then worked as an adviser to the Cuban Ministry of Education. President Fulgencio Batista removed him from his post, but he was hired by UNESCO and assigned to the International School of the Organization of American States in Rubio (Venezuela). He returned to Cuba shortly before the ascendance of Fidel Castro; and the new Minister of Education, Armando Hart, appointed him his main advisor as general director of Rural Education. Later he was made an advisor to the National Publishing House and director of the Youth Publishing House. From this position, he promoted the publication of reading books for children and spent much of his time developing literacy programs and writing children's books for Cuban's rural youth. This book is rare in the trade but fairly well represented in institutions. Very good. Item #H30722
