Group of 15 responses to requests for information from a Pittsburgh woman planning on going to the New York World's Fair in 1939, almost all from August 1939. It was like she was auditioning them! All in their original envelopes, enclosing brochures touting their hotels and other information. In no particular order we have 1) Hotel George Washington, 23 Lexington Ave. Brochure and single sheet menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner; 2) Shelton Hotel, 48th and Lexington. Cover letter from manager touting the rooms and giving rates, plus brochure; 3) Prince George Hotel, 14 E. 28th St. Brochure, flyer on transportation to the fair, a larger "Free at the Fair" flyer; 4) Hotel Plymouth, 49th and Broadway. Smaller envelope with small flyer for the hotel, flyer for 2-7 day tours to the fair, plus cover letter from the manager with room rates; 5) The Vanderbilt Hotel, Park & 34th. Cover letter and brochure; 6) Hotel Regent, Broadway & 104th. Cover letter and brochure; 7) Hotel Roosevelt, Madison & 45th. Brochure with map and 2 Day Tour brochure; 8) Park Central, 7th Ave. at 55th St. Brochure & cover letter; 8) Park Chambers, 68 W. 58th. Double-sided large map sheet with charming Hotel Park Chambers icon & arrow stapled on, with cover letter giving rates and other information; 9) Hotel Capitol, 8th Ave. & 51st. Small flyer on child care services, brochures for tours to the fair and for the hotel, cover letter; 10) Tudor Hotel, 304 E. 42nd. Brochure plus cover letter giving rates and other information; 11) Hotel Herald Square, Broadway & 34th. Map of NYC drawn by Richard Edes Harrison and postpaid reply postcard giving information on rates; 12) Hotel McAlpin, also at Broadway & 34th. Brochure; 13) Kenmore Hall, 145 E. 23rd. Postcard, small brochure, cover letter; 14) Alan Winfield, "Personalized Services," 501 Madison Ave. Cover letter offering their services as supplying chaperones, escorts, personal shopping aids, flyer advertising their fair tours and flyer about their other services including child care; 15) American Express Services, with brochure about visiting the World's Fair by rail and cover letter. Thrown in as a bonus are two additional Free at the Fair flyers, brochure map showing routes to the fair "4 Minute Crossings," Hayden Planetarium brochure, and A Sightseer's Map of Manhattan distributed by Ask Mr. Foster, a travel service.
