Pittsburgh & California: 1980-2002. Approximately 250 letters, plus about 50pp of printouts of emails. John DeChancie (B. 1946) is a Pittsburgh native and prolific science-fiction & fantasy author, known these days for his comic fantasy "Castle" series as well as many other popular genre fiction books. John Alfred Taylor (1931-2023) was a professor at Washington & Jefferson College, a widely published poet and lifelong science fiction and fantasy enthusiast who also wrote horror and supernatural fiction; a book of his stories, "Hell is Murky" was published by Ash-Tree Press in 2008. The two struck up a friendship due to their shared interests and proximity. An impressive archive, with many of the letters densely written and in multiple pages, DeChancie was at his most prolific during this 20 year period of their correspondence and provides a detailed picture of his professional life and personal life, his interest in other authors and books, his associations and friendships with other people in the sci-fi and fantasy community, his forays into film and TV, his visits to various conventions, and his life in the Pittsburgh area. DeChancie moved to Southern California and their correspondence dwindled to silence; in contacting DeChancie to discuss these letters, we were startled to find out that DeChancie didn't know Taylor had died. An excellent archive, a window into the life and concerns of a very active and funny author. Very good. Item #H34974
