1880s trade card for Laird's Bloom of Youth: Beautifies the Complexion

NP: 1880s. 4.5 x 3.25 inches, very good or better, with chromo front and printed text with illustration on verso, touting the advantages of using the product. Bloom of Youth was subject of an 1869 pamphlet produced by the American Medical Association, warning that the product, had caused lead poisoning and palsy in at least three cases, outlining the symptoms (fatigue, weight loss, nausea, headaches, muscle atrophy, paralysis, etc.) caused by the regular use of the much-touted skin whitening lotion, advertised as a “delightful and harmless toilet preparation” which, incidentally, contained lead acetate and carbonate. Very good. Item #H35319

Price: $15.00
