3 1906 postcards from Girls' Imperial University (Gakushuin), Tokyo Japan
Japan: 1906. 3 gravure photo postcards of scenes at the Girls' Imperial University near Tokyo: cattle pen, girls cultivating a garden, country road. Addressed on verso with stamps and postmarks from 1906. Founded in 1847 for the purpose of educating children of the Imperial Family, it moved to a location near Tokyo in 1877 where it expanded its class sizes and enrollees, but it wasn't until 1947 that the Gakushuin opened to the general public and not just social elites. Very good. Item #H35329
