Some Effects of Overseas Duty on the Attitudes of American Troops Toward Host Populations

Washington DC: Psychological Warfare Division, Department of Defense; George Washington University, 1954. First Printing. Wraps. Limited edition, no. 135 of 150 copies. 10.5 x 8 inches, softcover, very good, a few spots on covers from the rusting steel binder. 18 pp, on rectos only. "Attitude studies of American troops abroad can offer valuable insights into American relationships in foreign countries and can shed indirect light on attitudes of the host population toward the troops themselves and toward the United States in general. The present studies have focused attention on only part of the problem - namely, the attitudes of American troops as a result of contact. Until an explicit attempt is made to study attitudes, contacts, and interaction patterns of the host population in conjunction with those of American troops, troop-community research will never attain its maximum usefulness for psychological warfare and Troop Information and Education planning." (Statement from authors). OCLC locates a single copy at the Department of Defense. Surveys troops stationed in Europe and in Asia, particularly Korea. Very good. Item #H35592
