Ca. 1980 handwritten replies to questions on war and movies posed by an admirer
Replying to a letter by Steve Juscik of Merrillville Indiana, undated, but probably around 1980. After introducing himself and discussing a college course he had taken on documentary film, Juscik asks two questions. The first is "Do you think that the American attitude to the Vietnam war would've been different if the government had used a film series to make the public and military aware of our reason for military intervention in the Indochina area?" Capra wrote his answer in the margin: "No. Because first, all our reasons for intervention were clouded, and secondly, war is becoming archaic and stupid." Juscik then wrote, "Second of all, is there anyone film in the series [Why We Fight] that is your personal favorite, either through the technical aspect or through the message it provides?" Capra answered, "My 'War Comes to America' is my favorite, both from a technical excellence, and for the compelling way in which America was drawn into a war we did not want." He then writes, "Thanks for your interesting letter -- Frank Capra." With letter of authenticity from Todd Mueller Autographs in Colorado Springs. Very good. Item #H35602
