Leipzig: Printed for Mr. Mosle, 1927. First Printing. Hardcover. No. 147 of 500. 14 x 10.75 inch clamshell card slipcase housing book plus portfolio of 8 Zashiki Hakkei reproductions. Book is small quarto, 11 x 7.25 inches, hardcover, in papercovered boards, as is the larger portfolio, bound in special paper reproduced in Japan from the original wrapper of the Sashiki Hakkei. A reproduction in color of a Buddhist angel adorns the cover. Book is very good with some foxing to the covers. With 1928 inscription to Gladys Lynwall Pratt (later Freund), author of a number of books on floral decoration, gardens, etc. "in recognition of her kind assistance in elucidating my pape on swords & sowrd-guards of old Japan by wonderful lantern-slides...." Portfolio is in hardcover, 14 x 10.25 inches, good with some foxing to paper, wear to the paper flaps, housing 8 reproductions of prints in color mounted on sheets of cream paper, as called for. Light wear to edges of some of the mounting sheets (creases, one with a short tear) but the prints themselves are very good or better. The clamshell has quite a bit of surface wear and rubbing, but is fairly sturdy and intact. At the time of this listing, the lowest priced copy we could find was $564 from a Japanese company on ABE.
