Paris and Bruxelles: Polo / Sardou, 1875. Hardcover. Published 1875, small quarto, cloth backed marbled boards, 220 (4) pp, illustrated, including 7 costume plates in color lithograph, very good copy, light wear and rubbing to binding, first several preliminary leaves edgeworn with some corner loss. Given to a Msr. Ogereau in 1907 by an H. Leaffrey, with extensive revisions, additions, cuts, etc. in neat handwriting up to p. 117. Probably not by Lecocq (who was still alive at the time), but apparently a director's copy given to one of the actors (A French theatrical annual for 1907 lists a M. Ogereau as playing 'Cadet' in a well-received reprise of the play) -- the faint possibility remains that it was Lecocq that authored the changes, which are extensive, including additions, deletions, word changes, etc. This was Lecocq's most successful operetta, and the only one of his more than 40 such works that is still a part of the modern repertoire (it is always in performance somewhere in the world). Very Good. Item #H3975
