Amoskeag M'f'g Co. Souvenir Program (Ca. 1915) Lecture and Motion Picture Demonstration

Manchester, NH: Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, Ca. 1915. Wraps. 6.5 x 3.75 inches, stiff dark tan paper covers, good with light stains to front cover, some abrasions, paper residue and discoloration on rear cover; this must have been removed from an album or scrapbook, contents very good with light stains to edges of last page. 24 unnumbered pages, with lots of photoplates of the huge complex of mills. This must have been a souvenir book that accompanied a program for delegations touring the mills, and it must have been one of the first tour presentations of an industrial plant to use films in this way. Amoskeag was the largest cotton processing plant in the world; at its peak it had over 17,000 employees and over 30 buildings. This contains a description of the process of what happens once cotton is collected and sent to the mail, a glossary of definitions of terms commonly used in textile manufacturing, a double page plate of the mills on the east bank of the Merrimack river, statistics of the company including the annual payroll, the number of males and females employed, number of cotton spindles and worsted spindles, looms, yards of cotton cloth woven per week, miles of cloth woven per hour, pounds of cotton consumed per annum, number of turbine water wheels, boilers, steam engines, generators, how many tons of coal were used in the plant, etc. There are also views of the buildings themselves and interiors including the engine room, and a last view of the Amoskeag Falls in winter time. Very rare with Worldcat unable to locate any copies in libraries worldwide. Good. Item #H39973
