Late 19th or early 20th century, unclear to us where this was printed, by whom or the specific date. 11 x 8 inches, full dark red calf wallet style binding, good with general light rubbing and wear, pages tanning, last page with substantial loss but only to its blank section, no missing text. Inscriptions in Arabic on flyleaf, one stating it was purchased at a shop in Cairo in 1967. 11th century tales of the Muslim prophets. Al-Tha'labi was an eleventh-century Sunni Muslim scholar of Persian origin, considered a leading Quranic exegete of the fifth/eleventh century who famously authored the classical exegesis Tafsir al-Tha'labi. His Ara'is al-Majalis is perhaps the best and most frequently consulted example of the Islamic "qisas al-anbiya" (Tales of the Prophets) genre. He was an expert Quranic reciter and reader (muqri ), traditionist, linguist, philologist, preacher, historian, litterateur, and theologian. Good. Item #H40590
