A website called lcmemoirs, dedicated to Lawrence County, has this to say about the company: "In November 1899 the Pennsylvania Engineering Works formally came into being when industrialist James Reis purchased the defunct James P. Witherow Works, which made boilers and other heavy equipment for the steel-making industry. The plant was immediately enlarged and continued to make heavy castings for use in steel plants. The company merged with the Mead-Penn Iron Works of Meadville in October 1931 and was rebranded as the Pennsylvania Engineering Corporation or PECor." In 1915, the company landed a big order from the Carnegie Steel Works for a 1,000 ton mixer, a 75-ton crane and 50-ton metal cars. We are sure that many of the initial investors who bought stock will be familiar to historians of western Pennsylvania industry and commerce. Fair. Item #H41772
