Von Seeckt was a central figure and chief of staff in the First World War under August van Mackensen, instrumental in securing German victories in the east. He was commander in chief of the German army from 1920-1926 and largely responsible for rebuilding the army and implementing the infrastructure of it that allowed Gerrmany to become a powerhouse in the runup to WWII.
