Published 1771, 8vo, vellum, (14) 304 pp, good copy, vellum covers slightly bowed, pp. 120-129 with minor stains and damage, last third of book shows worming to upper outer corner, not affecting text. Oddly, we have another copy, same imprint, that ends at p. 272 and appears complete -- it's a puzzle to us. The author, a French capuchin, was toward the end of his life involved in French politics to the extent of advocating for religious protection and freedom from persecution. His treatise on 'inner peace,' which he thought to be the fundamental aspect of any successful spiritual life, was first published in France in 1757 and went through many editions, translated into several languages.
