The Imperial Journal of Art, Science, Mechanics and Engineering - plate volume ONLY

Manchester UK: James Ainsworth, Ca. 1860. Hardcover. No date, ca. 1860, identified on spine as 'The Imperial Journal / Plates' leading us to think this is a plate volume for Ainsworth's Imperial Journal. Quarto (11.25 inches; 28.5 cm) half leather, 130 engraved plates, some double page, some quite large folding plates. Subjects of plates are: anatomy, architecture, botany, astronomy, mechanical drawing, farriery, zoology, geography and maps, engineering, etc. Good condition, some wear to binding, inner hinges cracked, general light foxing to plates, some age toning, some of the larger plates including one on phrenology have been neatly repaired with archival acid free rice paper etc, but there are still some plates with splits or tears, general condition of plates is good to very good. Lots of visual appeal! Good. Item #H4561
