Banquet to Mr. J. L. Toole in Willis's Rooms, July 1st, 1874. Earl Roseberry Presiding
(London): 1874. Paperback. Published 1874, self wraps, 11 pp (9.5 inches tall, 24 cm), very good but for small stain on front cover, some corner curling. Gives accounts of the large dinners, not just this one but also of a dinner held for Toole at Great Western Hotel, Birmingham, George Dawson Presiding, on July 6th. Toole was one of the most famous actors of his day, known for his roles in farces and serio-comic dramas. In July 1874 he set out on an American tour, and these banquets were fare-thee-wells from his friends and colleagues. Included among the list of attendees is Charles Dickens (d. 1870) -- which makes no sense. In any case, his American tour was a flop, and he returned to England to resume his previous career. Good.
