Another two volumes taking his autobiographical account up to 1879 and are rarely encountered with these three; these volumes cover the crucial Civil War years and before. Large 8vo, olive cloth, very good, light wear and soil. Journalist and diplomat, Bigelow was appointed by Lincoln to be American consul in Paris in 1861 and played an active role and thwarting French and British interests from providing assistance to the Confederates. He later served after the war in a similar role in Germany and became friendly with Bismarck. Very Good. Item #H8178
