woman-identified woman [and] a letter from mary

Boston: New England Free Press, Ca. 1971. Handout, 2 sheets, 17 x 11 inches. A foundational document in second wave feminism: part of a 'zap' associated with the Lavender Menace Protest at the Second Congress to Unite Women in NYC in May 1970, as it spoke to lesbian outrage at being shut out of proceedings at the Congress: they cut the lights, took the stage and denounced the Congress for its exclusion of gay activists, and distributed copies of this 10-paragraph polemic there. It was also printed by other collectives, but unclear as to priority. Very few copies of any of the early or original publications of this in institutions. It led to substantial changes in the years that followed, including additions to the platform that NOW adopted at their 1971 convention. This has a note, 'This article, written by New York radicalesbians, first appeared a year ago in Rat.' -- not sure what Rat refers to. The New England Free Press shared the same address on Tremont St. as the Boston Women's Collective that published Our Bodies Ourselves, so we feel confident in thinking it is the same publisher.
