Sergeant Kitty - Vocal Score & Music

New York: Chas. K. Harris, Ca. 1904. Quarto, cloth-backed color pictorial wraps, very good, light wear to spine and light loss to front lower corner of wrap, contents VG, 158 pp. Action takes place at the village of Montigny where the 22nd Hussard are encamped, 1830. Kitta La Tour is in love with Lieutentant Valliere, but a meddling aunt and several other characters get in the way of their eloping, and things are made worse by a planned rouse in which a wedding takes place but not of the people who are supposed to get married. A complex love quadrangle of an opera with comic mischief; unfortunately there really are no scenes in which Kitty La Tour dresses as a sergeant, so this is NOT an opera about a modern-day Joan of Arc or about women in the military. OCLC shows only a few copies in institutions. Virginia Earle played Kitty in the opening of this at Daly's in NY in January 1904; the cover of this shows her dressed in uniform. Probably a 1904 edition thus. Very Good. Item #H9278
