The First Book of the Chronicles of the Jonathanites, by a Scribe, the Son of a Prophet

Philadelphia: T. R. Callendar, 1872. Paperback. Presumed first printing, 1872, wraps, 23pp, lacks front cover, has rear cover featuring ads of the publisher's other volumes. A satire written in Biblical style about Horace Greeley, free trade, protectionism, Lyman Trumbull, William Jennings Bryan and other notable figures involved in the eco-political debates of the 1870s. The publisher also produced the Horace Greeley Joke Book, the Greeley Songster, and the Comic Life of Greeley, so Greeley was clearly the target of Callender's critical eye. Some institutional marks. Fair. Item #H998
