Account of an Expedition from Pittsburgh to the Rocky Mountains performed in the years 1819 and '20, 2 volumes
Philadelphia: Carey & Lea, 1823. First Printing. Hardcover. 2 volumes, contemporary calf, slightly mismatched volumes, good condition, lacking atlas volume. The first voume in chocolate calf with red spine label, good solid copy with front endpapers show heavy gray tiny spotting, light foxing and toning, last twenty pages (or so) show faint tide-mark from old waterstaining. Light rubbing to binding, which measures 8.7 inches tall; the second volume is in darker brown calf, black spine label, spine more heavily gilt decorated, binding measures 9 inches tall. General rubbing and light wear to binding, solidly bound, contents good with some darker tide-marks from dampstaining to front preliminary pages, diminishing in intensity to hardly observed by p. 50, general foxing and spotting, and resumption of some dampstaining or more foxing to last 100 or so pages. Has the appendix, sometimes not found, of Astronomical and Meteorological Records and Vocabularies of Indian Languages, to which Thomas Say made some contributions, separate title page dated 1822. We've done absolutely no restoration or touching-up. Good. Item #h24159
