Ca. 1970 photo book of the Politotdel collective farm in Tashkent Oblast, Uzbekistan SSR

(Tashkent): Ca. 1970. Hardcover. In 8.75 x 6.75 inch burgundy cloth folder with a pocket containing 26 original photos (7.5 x 6") of the Politotdel collective farm in the Tashkent Oblast. Photos of the people, campus, farm, workers, educational and athletic facilities, etc. Very good, uncommon. Ca. 1970. Photos of the Politotdel, a Koryo-saram (ethnic Korean) kolkhoz (collective farm) that also included Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Tatars, Russians, Ukrainians and other Soviet nationalities. Politotdel, along with other Korean kolkhozes in the region produced some of the highest numbers of Heroes of Socialist Labour, the highest degree of distinction in the entire Soviet Union; and this album seems to be an indication of that, since it was published by the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, an award given by the Soviet Union for labor merit. Koreans and other collective farmers built roads, larger hospitals, larger hospital staff, larger schools, playgrounds, libraries and other facilities on their collective farms, and the Politotdel hosted one of the most extensive sports complexes and training programmes in any of the kolkhozes across the USSR. One of the photos gives the history of the farm from its founding in 1925 to their current expansion. (Some of the text of this came from a Facebook post about one of the photos). Very good.
