"America" article with map, ca. 1820s, from Parker & Delaplaine's American Edition of the New Edinburgh Encyclopaedia
Philadelphia: Edward Parker & Joseph Delaplaine, Ca. 1820s. 10.75 x 8.5 inches, disbound; has title page and paginated 577-678, with almost all the text of the complete article on America, with folding map showing Louisiana Territory, Texas not yet a state, etc., text printed in double columns. Good with some foxing and dampstaining to title page, less so but still there to the map, text pages very good and clean. The encyclopedia was published in Philadelphia between 1813 and 1832, so there is the possibility that this was printed as early as 1813 (there is no date on the title page or the map) but the feel and typography seem more like the 1820s to us. Also has engraved portrait plate of Fisher Ames. Good. Item #h44435
