Bound volume of 1929-1932 "Portfolio" sections from Architecture Magazine
NY: New York: Scribner's, 1929-1932. Hardcover. Small quarto, 12 x 9 inches, in dark blue buckram stamped in gilt on spine, very good, light general rubbing and wear to binding, contents mainly very good. With "Wolfe" in pencil on flyleaf -- probably from the Pittsburgh architectural firm of Wolfe & Wolfe that practiced during this period -- Lawrence Wolfe (1890-1953) in particular. Architecture magazine was published from 1900 to 1936 in NY; they began a series of 8 pp. portfolios that focused on a particular architectural detail with photos and short captions; there are 24 such portfolios here, with a typed list of them on the pastedown, excised from issues dating from May 1929 to December 1932. Contents include: rain leader heads, garden pools, quoins, aids to fenestration, balustrades, spandrels, entrances to business buildings, entrance porches, wooden fences, Gothic doorways, second story porches, weathervanes, window grilles, radiator enclosures, interior clocks, outside stairways, leaded glass medallions, exterior doors of wood, metal fences, hanging signs, wood ceilings, wall sheathing, French stonework, and over mantle treatments. Very good. Item #h44446
