Billingsgate Shoal, inscribed and with letter from author

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. Publisher's blue boards in dust jacket, very good, minor wear. Inscribed to Jackie (Geyer) with affection and admiration, May 1982, also with letter from the same time laid in, typed and signed with short ink note in addition, apologizing to Geyer for not being able to see her on a whirlwind trip to Pittsburgh, and sending her not only this book but also a memento from the annual Speckled Band meeting (the memento is not included, whatever it was). This won the Edgar award in 1983 for best mystery novel, beating out Lawrence Block, Donald Westlake and others. Boyer worked for "Places Rated Almanac" at the time, and had to go around to cities in order to write up descriptions and guides for the almanac, which explains why he was in Pittsburgh but unable to see Geyer. Very good / very good. Item #h44990
