Toonneel der Steden (1966 facsimile of 1649 atlas of Netherlands towns)
Lausanne & Amsterdam: Editions Sequoia; Elsevier, 1966. Hardcover. Folio, 22 x 13.5 inches, in maple-tan leatherette, good with light surface soil and stains and bumping to lower corners of binding, affecting the outermost pages, there is also a double page map of Rotterdam, clearly from the same series of atlases, trimmed quite a bit, that may have been from some other volume of Blaeu's -- we don't think it came out of this volume. If it did, it should have been accompanied by several pages of text on Rotterdam, and they are not present here, so it's a mystery. With well over thirty single- or double-page maps of Dutch towns, starting with Dordrecht. Reprint of 1649 atlas. Great facsimiles, richly colored and on good paper that conveys the feel of the originals. We wouldn't be shocked to learn that there's a viable trade in dismantling these volumes and framing the maps. Good. Item #h45608
