Seeing the World Before 30 and After 60 or Night and Day

Published by the author. First printing. Paperback. Inscribed and signed by the author. First edition. Not much publication information--ca. 1964. Softcover, 207 pp., clean unmarked text, Good copy, a bit of age-toning to the pages, soiling or discoloration to the covers, wear to the covers inclduing creasing and tearing, appears to be rebacked with brown paper. A rare book. Signed and inscribed by Lee Parker on the first page--text with some ink corrections, presumably made by the author as well. This book covers the author's experiences dating from 1916-1963 in China and other Asian locales as a representative of an American tobacco firm. Parker compares the way of life there to his hometown of Ahoskie, North Carolina, writing "just in case my children and grandchildren might some day have the curiosity to read." Parker's observations are poetically written and very engaging, though admittedly his terminology ("yellow people", "Jap" etc.) speaks of a different era. Very interesting item, capturing American impressions of early 20th Century Asia. Good. Item #s00015300
