Contemporary three-quarter calf and marbled boards, gilt morocco labels. Ex-lib., with unobtrusive institutional labels on front free endpapers and inkstamps in rear pastedowns. Contemporary ink ownership signature of James Ross in front pastedown and title page of each volume. Bindings generally worn, particularly spines, with most of the backstrips of Vols. 1, 3, 9, 10, 14, and 15 worn away. Moderate foxing. Fair to good. The greater portion of the landmark serial weekly collecting historical, biographical, legal, political, archaeological, and other important materials on the state of Pennsylvania. The present volumes were owned and bear the ownership signatures of James Ross (1762-1847), an important early Pittsburgh-area lawyer and U.S. Senator, noted for his role in negotiating peace with the leaders of the Whiskey Rebellion, on orders from George Washington, in 1794.
